Paintings by Diana Sieradski

Diana Sieradski was born in Pasadena, CA, studied art at UCSB, and has worked in retail, food, museums and now as an elementary school teacher. She has always made things: clothes, furniture, stuffed sculptures, food, bread, drawings, and paintings. Most recently she has been creating fresco scratchings. The idea began many years ago while working for the Getty Museum, packing up tiny, sometimes microscopic fragments of frescos and pottery. She was drawn towards the rich, flat matte surface of these small remnants of long ago and began to experiment with an adaptation of the old technique of painting on wet plaster. The plaster surface greedily slurps up the color, always wanting more, quickly drawing it into its depths and becoming a flat mask again. Then, the images are scratched in, using chisels and scrapers as my pencil, scarring the surface.

Ceramics by Jennifer Gutowski

Jennifer Gutowski, an MFA grad from the University of Illinois, has only recently reacquainted herself with clay… and the reunion has been JOYOUS!

Each pot is made with love and respect for the medium. Every piece is created with the material in mind and its rich history of shaping and firing sticky muck into something you can use in everyday life.

Jennifer’s come a long way from her high-school pom-pom squad (where she boldly debuted with Jungle Love). While focusing on ceramics, film, and installation art in Champaign/Urbana Jennifer acquired a taste for horror movies, desserts, and musicians. She currently muscles large paintings around The Broad Museum and is actively looking for affordable housing with her husband in the Los Angeles area.
